Project Basics
The main way TranslateCI integrates with your project is through a Git repository. We support GitHub, GitLab and BitBucket. If you don't have a repository yet, you can create one for free on GitHub.
Preparing a Shopify App for Translation
If you've ever translated your app before, you're probably good to go. If not, take a look at our guide to prepping an app for translation. It's a quick process and you only need to do it once.
Creating a New Project
Start by clicking on 'New Project' and selecting your Git provider. You'll be prompted to login to your provider and then you'll be able to enter your repository information.
You should know!
If you are using GitHub as your provider, you will need to install TranslateCI onto your repository. You'll see a link to install it after you create your first project.
Once you've selected your repository, you'll be prompted to fill in some details about your project.
This form is broken down into 5 main sections:
- Repository - Your Git repository. translateci/my-repo, for example.
- Branch - The branch where we'll read from and make pull requests to. Usually, this will be either your production branch or a staging branch.
- Project Type - We support a bunch of projects by default. These include Laravel, MJML, React with i18next, Ruby on Rails, Shopify Checkout UI Extensions, Shopify Themes and Vue with vue-i18n. We add new support all the time, and if you don't see yours on the list, send an email over to support@translateci.com and we'll do our best to support for your particular setup.
- Source Language - The default language of your application.
- Destination languages - Select all the languages you want to translate your application into. You can select as many languages as you want here to translate your project into.**
Once you’ve filled in the form, click on ‘Get my quote’.
Your Quote
TranslateCI will now analyse your repository and will find all the phrases to translate. This normally takes between 30 seconds to 3 minutes. When your quote is ready, you will receive an email to review your quote or you can select ‘Review Quote’.
You’ll then be shown the cost of the first job, estimated time to complete and total number of words found.
Once you’re ready, select ‘Start translation job’. If you haven't provided billing information yet, you'll be promoted to select a plan.
You will also be able to choose between using professional human translators or the latest AI technology.
You should know!
It's important to note that there are tradeoffs between using human translators and AI, including price and quality. You can learn more about the difference between human and AI translations here.
If you choose to use human translators, it's a good idea to add some information about your app for the translators. The more context you can provide, the better the translation will be. Read the providing context doc page for more information.
After that's squared away, we’ll hand over your project to your chosen translator solution. Once the translations are complete, you will receive a pull request back to your Git repository with the new translation files. These will be in the correct format for your project.
